Dr. Michael Magbalon or “Dr. Mike” as he is called by many of his patients joined the Thomasville Eye Center in June of 2007. Born in the Philippines and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Mike has come to love the southwest Georgia lifestyle and particularly the community of Thomasville Georgia. After graduating with honors from Villanova University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, he decided to pursue medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Dr. Mike became interested in ophthalmology as a career and completed a residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He furthered his interests in the fields of corneal surgery and refractive surgery by completing a fellowship at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans under the tutelage of Herb Kaufmann, M.D., a pioneer in the field of corneal transplantation. Dr. Mike thoroughly enjoyed working with residents at the LSU Eye center that he decided to stay on staff as an Assistant Professor and pursue a second fellowship in the area of glaucoma surgery and disease.
Dr. Mike has fully settled into our practice and offers his services with emphasis on refractive cataract surgery, LASIK surgery, glaucoma surgery, corneal transplantation and external disease management. He stays abreast of the latest developments in ophthalmic surgery including the growing use of lasers in corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery and looks forward to welcoming new patients to the practice.
When Dr. Mike is not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their four kids. He is an avid Villanova Wildcat basketball fan, University of Tennessee football fan, and enjoys the cultural opportunities in the area, along with tennis and travel adventures with his beloved wife Shannon.
